Pause Construction at Amigos Park
The Issue
Dear District Officials,
I am writing to urge an immediate pause on construction at Amigos Park.
The rationale for elevating and floating a cement sidewalk was based on a full-park concept that is not feasible. Carrying those same risky, expensive, and complex engineering plans over to a standalone 15-foot public parcel is fiscally irresponsible and environmentally unnecessary.
There are simpler, far less intrusive methods available to protect the tree roots without building heavy concrete structures on existing ground.
I strongly request that the city:
Pause construction before further funds are expended.
Re-evaluate the design to fit the actual public parcel footprint.
Adopt a simple green park model: remove the iron bars, preserve the ground-level green space, protect the trees, and add tables and chairs for neighborhood seating.
Please keep the risks and costs down by choosing a simpler, greener approach.
Sincerely,
