Gun Control and Background Checks

As many of us can see, a plethora amount of incidents have been occurring around the U.S. due to guns. The amount of hate crime occurring in our country can be minimized with your help. The government's first priority is protecting their citizens. Our voice counts as to what happens. Shootings like Sandy Hook, Columbine, and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, should not be going on. As a student who attends school, this type of behavior in our state and nation shall not happen. Many children across the world and in our country have fear while going to school. A school's number one priority is safety. Funding for low-income schools to receive higher safety should be put in too. Shootings don't happen because of gun control ONLY. The person shooting the gun also has fault. This is why extensive backgrounds checks should be put in for the person selling and buying the guns. There should also be an age limit as to who can use a gun. The age in which a person becomes stabilized and understands the pros and cons of a gun. Also, guns used in the military that can really affect normal humans should not be sold. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting was done using an AR-15 gun. This gun is a military gun which means it can harm one person harshly.
Getting our voice out there and saving lives would have a great impact on our country. The party leading our nation right now has said they will touch on gun control and firearms later. But later when? When more incidents like this occur? This issue should be addressed ASAP as it can ruin many lives each day and can leave families in tears. School in the olden days did not have to worry about such things. Now, parents and students are cautious every single second of their lives no matter where they are. Sitting in a classroom taking a test, being at work, or even sitting in your own house watching TV. Firearms and gun control should be taken into consideration by our nation's president and our own state's governor.
Making sure schools across the nation have advanced safety would make children's lives better. We have no idea what can occur, when it can occur, or even where. All we can do is pray this never happens but also have a change in our community. The U.S. Constitution states that we have the right to petition, but we also the right to keep and bear arms. This does not mean to take away someone's life whenever and wherever. We have the right to keep and bear arms to PROTECT ourselves, not to destroy lives of others. We must all keep in mind that our voice, our vote, our signature, and our petition can/will count. We can't just sit back and wait for time to do it's job. We have to stand up and make a change and not make time win.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, we may have the 2nd amendment rights, but those rights killed these innocent lives. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. WE CALL BS! WE CALL FOR A CHANGE.
For the past year or years, mass shootings have been occurring in our own country. The country that guarantees safety and protection for its residents. The Columbine shooting, Sandy Hook shooting, Orlando shooting, Las Vegas shooting, Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, and now the Santa Fe high school shooting. If our voices aren't the ones heard, then we won't forgive ourselves I have made another petition before called "Gun Control and background checks", but i want this petition to REALLY prove my point. For my Civics Action Project, we as students, were required to pick an issue in our country or state which we believe is significant. As my issue, i chose gun control.
Many traumatic shootings have been occurring throughout our country, we need to make this stop. Just as March For Our Lives did a walkout/protest nationally, i believe we should do this monthly. This will increase how our voices are heard and where. How many more innocent lives need to be taken for it to be a wake up call for you government?! "WE THE PEOPLE" demand change NOW. It's time you listen to your citizens. No matter what your party platform is and no matter what you believe.
Federalist papers #51 states "In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions." What i am trying to convey is, the government must first control its people, its country, and its safety, and THEN control itself. The government is ran by the people, for the people.
From now to future generations, our fight for gun control will not stop and i guarantee that.
Many might say " gun control is only taking away our second amendment rights." However, those rights are the reason many innocent people lost their lives. The NRA, Trump, and the republicans are a good example as to who may oppose our voices. Hence, some government members get the idea that after the MSD shooting, change is coming. Rep. Keith Ellison has stated " it feels like something has changed". DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar conveyed it to be a "tipping point". Minnpost news has stated " in the wake of the February highschool shooting in Parkland, Florida- and the passionate activism that followed from the student survivors of the attack-politicians from Washington to St.Paul were predicting it was a landmark shift in the country's gun debate. Brian G. Rafn, a principal at Morgan Dempsey Capital Management has said about gun control activists "it's like throwing rocks at a U.F.O.- you're not going to do much damage."
Here is a message Brian, our rocks aren't weak and your U.F.O. isn't strong. Our rocks are made of determination, strength, support, love, unity, and peace. Your U.F.O is made out of violence, harm, hatred, and anger. Our rocks have love from the innocent angels above. Your U.F.O. has "love"' from the NRA and republicans. Our damage will leave your U.F.O. into pieces, and at that time, we will be diamonds, and you guys will be pebbles.
I hope you guys take these thoughts and reflect on it. Please sign this petition as it will not only help me, but every single student in our nation and the future generations. Thank You So Much!
