IXL is an interactive online learning tool, where users answer questions and get points based on correct and incorrect answers. Students have been known to be flustered with the way IXL's SmartScore scores incorrect answers. In their words, "IXL's SmartScore is a dynamic measure of progress toward mastery, rather than a percentage grade. It tracks your skill level as you tackle progressively more difficult questions. Consistently answer questions correctly to reach excellence (90), or conquer the Challenge Zone to achieve mastery (100)!" This needs to change. It makes problems, for example: You have scored a 99 on a topic and get one question wrong. It drops you back to 89, where you have to answer ten more questions to get back to your previous score.
