On June 1st, 2019, my family and I (7 including my niece) decided to attend a regular showing due to the fact that the autism friendly showing of Aladdin is only offered one day every other week. because of schedules with other family members this was the only option.

My niece is 3 years old and has severe to moderate autism and can be talkative and uses a phone which has no sound and dim lighting to help prevent meltdowns. 3/4s into the film another theater guest decided to make a complaint with staff about my nieces talking and phone which was not even in her viewing because she was seated in front of us at the other end of the theater.

Staff then told us we had to make her stop talking and she could not use the phone because of policies of the theater. Autism is not something you can just stop or turn off. So we were told we all needed to leave the theater. When I brought up my nieces ADA law reasonable accommodations they were ignored and refused. While we were refunded tickets. This does not fix the issue of not following ADA laws of reasonable accommodations to some who how has a disability. They also offered a private showing of the film however this would only further segregate and discriminate against my niece who has autism. That does not fix this issue. this further denies individuals with disabilities to fully be accepted in society and that they will always be removed or segregated away of services, events, and businesses.

There are many other behaviors that can come with being on the autism spectrum. Ex. What if the child that has boundary issues pokes a person next to them? The individual should be made aware obviously that the child is on the spectrum. but if that person has an issue they should go to staff and staff should offer that person who does not want to be poked, another seat. instead of telling the child and family to leave.
Ex. A child is talkative, rocks back and forth, or hand flapping someone deems that disturbing and the individual on the spectrum is told to leave.

Or there are other disabilities

Ex. What about someone who has a heretic cough and someone deems that disturbing. With this policy they can be asked to leave.
Ex. Someone has a noisy oxygen machine, under this policy they can be asked to leave.
