There are laws in place regarding the sale and use of fireworks that are currently impossible to monitor and police. The law is clearly ineffective with fireworks being stockpiled and discharged throughout the Summer months.
The impact on the community is significant and in particular on our pets and native wildlife. Many pet owners experience months of anxiety with their animals following Guy Fawkes Day. And the impact on our protected bird species is unimaginable. It is simply traumatic for them and there is no option to seek help to shut it down.

The police have more important things to deal with and the local council noise control does not respond to fireworks. It is illegal yet there are no consequences for the behaviour.

This petition calls on a complete ban on the private sale of fireworks in New Zealand.
