The Issue

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION FOR THE CRIMINAL REFORM BILL ACT AND FIRST STEP ACT!!!!

In 1995 a young man by the name of Maurice Navarro Brooks, a first time offender, participated in armed robberies, during these offenses the firearm was never discharged, nor any persons physically harmed. Maurice was offered 10 years originally to testify against his co-defendants, which would ultimately put his loved ones in danger and place him in a life threatening position outside of the walls of confinement. Maurice decided for the safety of his family that it would be imperative to go to trial. Upon taking his case to trial he was blindsided and penalized for not taking a plea deal and received 226 years under the federal stacking law (924C Stacking Law). Maurice, has not only rehabilitated with documented proof from jailers, psychiatrist and case-managers, but he has also become a professional chef, mentor to young offenders that are entering into the federal prison system, and a host of extracurricular activities that assist in the overall lives of his peers. If Maurice is release his goal is to open a vocational residential housing facility for federal inmates that are acclimating back into the community, ultimately providing change and staying consistent with the laws that are being passed to bring loved ones home. Maurice is now 42 years and has been a model prisoner and is loved and missed by his children and family. Please help bring him home he has completed 24 years of his sentence which is 14 years over what was originally offered. We miss him and know that he doesn't pose a threat or is at very low risk for committing any other crime.
