We call on the London Borough of Haringey to keep the outward-bound centre, Pendarren House, under the council's management and not to privatise it.

We believe that it is a vital part of the borough's education provision. Generations of Haringey school children have gone there to learn first-hand about nature and conservation. Located in the South Wales countryside it provides services which students cannot access within London. Furthermore, their stay there helps teach the children teamwork, self-reliance and mutual respect. Being under the council's control ensures that fees are kept to a minimum, thus allowing less privileged children to attend. This is what inclusion should mean. Sub-contracting the management of it to a private company would threaten that as well as the strong educational focus of the centre.

Any savings to the council which would be made by such a transfer of control are minimal, especially when compared to the benefits. Pendarren may be in Wales, but it is an important part of Haringey. Keep it for all the children.
