PLANT A LIFE, HELP A LIFE PROGRAM

    By: Human’s Earth Organization

The plan that we want to implement is called the "Plant a Life, Help a Life" program. Our group created this program to help people in our community in Rodriguez. The plan will start at our own place as a test. If our program is successful, we will further increase the area where our program will reach. The Plant a life, Help a life program has two purposes.

The first purpose of our program is to rejuvenate the beauty of our surroundings. We all know that Montalban is surrounded by mountains and forests, and those mountains and forests are already thinning in number and getting destroyed because of natural resource abuse. One of the examples is clearing or pagkakaingin. Pagkakaingin is a technique of cleaning where the soil and trees are burned down. Another one is logging or pagtotroso, a technique where old and big trees are cut down.

This are effects of natural resources abuse:

1. Heating up of the surroundings because of the loss of trees and mountains getting destroyed.

2. Loss of many kinds of species.

3. Deterioration of the ozone layer.

4. Decrease of water levels in dams.

5. Floods in low level areas .

These are the effects of illegal activities because of people's actions, there is a possibility of reversing the current situation where our rivers are black and our surroundings are lifeless. It can be made possible with the program our group created which is Plant a life, Help a life program. The procedure is simple, we will start by buying seeds and will plant it for it to grow, there will be separation between fruit's, vegetables and plants. They will have an area where they are designated. We will also study how to properly cultivate the soil and plants, and to further improve our project, we will use recycled materials such as plastic bottles for planting plants, we will take care of the plants throughout the stage where it can be pass in other vase, we will also sell it for the right price and the profit of the bought plants will be used as fund of our program.

Let us move on to the second purpose of this plan. The "Plant a life, Help a life program” is not only to help our nature but also to help our neighbors. We know that here in Montalban, many of us are suffering and struggling in life. Because of extreme poverty, children roam the streets, and some even lose their lives. But, because of our project, they can survive starvation for even just one day. The funds we raise from our project will be used to help our neighbors. We will use them to sell canned goods, noodles, rice, and other grocery packs, and then we will go from house to house to distribute them. If there are extra funds, we will provide feeding for children who do not get enough nutrition, otherwise known as malnourished children. The fruits and vegetables we can harvest will also be shared with groceries. In times of disaster or flood, the “Plant a life, Help a life program” can also be of assistance. When disasters hit our town, we are here to help. We will donate relief goods to families devastated or affected by disasters. These are just a few of the steps we can take to help our community. When it is finalized, we will immediately launch the “Plant a life, Help a life program”, and we will also make sure that it increases the potential benefits for our community.

How do we even start this project? Where do we get funding and so on? For this project, we will start with budgeting the necessities and finding an area that is good to grow a variety of plants. We will need a budget of ₱3000-5000 to start the project. The most investment that will be used will also come from us personally, so if anyone wants to help, sponsor, or donate, we will be open to that. That investment will last until we buy the necessities in the first two months of starting. In the area, we will look for a fertile area that can be planted with various types of plants. We will repair that area and make sure that there is adequate ventilation for the plants that we will plant to grow and flourish immediately. As for the fertilizers to be used, we will still buy fertilizers, and in addition, our group also agreed to use alternative fertilizers such as animal manure, for example, cow and carabao manure, which can be found in our environment. As for the tools, we will buy the tools that we will need for this project and as I said earlier, if anyone wants to donate, we will gladly accept them.

What about when there are disasters, hazards, or in short, obstacles that hinder our project? The “human’s earth organization” or our group, is prepared for things like disasters, changing weather, pests, and other would be hindrances to our project. For disasters such as typhoon, we will make sure the area we plant in is a place where our plants can be protected. When we have enough funds, we will immediately repair that area, installing nets that will serve as a roof. When the weather is changeable, sometimes other plants do not immediately adjust. We will always check the behaviors of our plants when that happen by chance. I also said that we will study the methods of planting and caring for different types of plants so that we can apply them to this project. As much as possible, we would not have used insecticides and pesticides, but if necessary, we will use those chemicals. We will also think or search for ways to prevent them. Many more could affect our project, but we will make sure we are prepared for that because the human’s earth organization is an organization for all living beings. We believe that everyone deserves a better life.
