In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled in the plaintiffs’ favor in McCleary vs. Washington. Washington, they said, was not meeting its constitutional mandate to fund public education.

Washington’s constitution says: “It is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders, without distinction or preference on account of race, color, caste, or sex.”

Therefore, it is the state’s responsibility to fund its schools and not districts or the federal government.

The Wa. state legislature alots 7.3 Billions dollars to public education the next 4 years. One billion of that was specifically for teachers and aide. Currently 180 school districts in Washington are not recognizing this supreme court decision and have yet to offer teachers salary increases at least in the double digits.

Citizens of Washington, please stand with your teachers and demand that the state fulfill its promise to our great teachers of this land.
