Recently IU Residential Programs and Services (RPS) made the announcement to students that they will be renaming Rose Avenue Residence Hall to Spruce Residence Hall. 

This came at a shock to students on campus who were not consulted about the name change and their method of recourse to such actions, the Residence Halls Association, is not in session over the summer.

For two years students in Rose Avenue Residence Hall have been working to formulate a common identity and create a community within their Residence Hall. Requests to live in Rose are among the highest on campus. Rose belongs as much to the students that have lived there than it does to RPS.

This unnecessary and arbitrary name change will also end up costing the university money and time through lost branding and changes required to all of RPS's marketing materials. This cost has also already extended to student organizations as the Residence Halls Association (RHA) was told they cannot reuse tee-shirts with the name Rose appearing on them. 

Sign the petition if you want the name to stay the same and you want to send a message to RPS that you're against actions like this in the future.
