Pass the WPSAct to End Workplace Psychological Abuse in New York State

Pass the WPSAct to End Workplace Psychological Abuse in New York State
The Issue
I am writing this petition to urge the lawmakers of New York State to pass the Work Psychological Abuse Safety Act (WPSAct). No human should ever experience workplace bullying, harassment, or psychological abuse. We have a right to go to work and do our jobs without being subjected to stress, PTSD, or trauma due to unethical behaviors from employers. It is time for us to take a stand against these injustices and demand accountability.
Personal Story:
In my own personal experience, I was unjustly taken off a work schedule by my employer simply because of a name tag issue. Instead of professionally addressing the situation and asking me for an explanation, I was invalidated based on a past experience. This led to me being harassed and confronted in front of both fellow employees and customers. The hostile behavior triggered a PTSD episode and forced me to relive my past trauma all over again.
It is disheartening that there are individuals like this employer who believe they can treat people however they please without facing any consequences. Their behavior is not only unethical but also detrimental to the mental health and well-being of their employees.
The WPSAct aims at putting an end to such unacceptable practices in workplaces across New York State by holding managers and employers accountable for their actions. It will provide much-needed protection for workers against psychological abuse, ensuring that no one has their experiences invalidated or dismissed as mere triggers.
Statistics show that workplace bullying has severe consequences on individuals' mental health, leading not only to increased stress levels but also higher rates of depression, anxiety disorders, and even suicide ideation. According to research conducted by the Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI), nearly 65 million Americans have experienced workplace bullying at some point in their careers.
By passing the WPSAct into law, we can create safer working environments where employees feel valued, respected, and protected. This act will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to increased productivity and overall job satisfaction.
I urge you to support this petition and join me in demanding the passage of the WPSAct in New York State. Together, let's put an end to workplace psychological abuse and ensure that no one has to endure such traumatic experiences while simply trying to earn a living.
Thank you for your attention and commitment towards creating a safer work environment for all.
Sincerely,
Staci Baker
