Pass the Safe Communities Act in Massachusetts

This petition is in support of The Safe Communities Act to make Massachusetts a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants.
President-elect Donald Trump has promised throughout his campaign to round up and deport millions of undocumented immigrants from all over the United States. As of November 13th, 2016, he underlined his resolve to begin carrying out this plan immediately, tearing apart families and communities. As a state that voted against Trump in every single county, we are obligated to disavow the anti-immigrant sentiment and xenophobia that have been core tenets of Trump's presidential campaign. We must act now.
The effects of Trump's inhumane proposal have already become clear. Children are terrified that their parents will be deported and the Boston Public School system has called in counselors to help students process their fears.
Immigrants, undocumented or otherwise, are the lifeblood of this country. They are our friends, our neighbors, our classmates, our colleagues. They deserve to know that they will not be removed from their homes, separated from their loved ones, or detained indefinitely with no recourse. They deserve to know that we, the residents of Massachusetts, will not tolerate their persecution.
