The Issue

Pass the Menstrual Hygiene Products Accessibility Act!

I am a high school student in East Tennessee, and I am starting this petition because no one should skip class or feel embarrassed because they don’t have access to period products.
In my personal experience, I’ve seen girls frantically try to find someone who has a period product or see if the nurse has any in their office. It’s frustrating and cuts into our class time when we should just be able to grab what we need from the bathroom.
That’s why the Menstrual Hygiene Products Accessibility Act needs to be passed. This bill, sponsored by Representative Elaine Davis, will make free period products available in bathrooms at high schools across Tennessee. It’s going to make sure that we, as students, can stay in school without having to worry about our period.
A beta program in Knoxville, organized by Free Period Knox, has already shown the positive impacts of having these products in schools. Girls were able to stay in class and the stigma surrounding periods was reduced. The program proves that it works, and Tennessee should make it a statewide policy.
By providing free period products, this bill will help improve the educational outcomes for every female demographic, reduce the stigma around periods, and better our school communities.
Other states have already passed bills on period products and it’s time for Tennessee to do the same. By providing these products, the state will be investing in our future and helping to ensure that every girl has equal access to the resources that we need to succeed.
Please sign this petition to support the Menstrual Hygiene Products Accessibility Act and help bring free period products to every high school in Tennessee!
