Pass the Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Act

Pass the Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Act
The Issue
As a dedicated member of the artistic community, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact that technological advances, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated art, have had on artists' lives. The rise of generative AI poses significant challenges for creators whose works are being used without proper acknowledgment or compensation.
Currently, artists' works are often incorporated into AI training datasets without consent or credit. These datasets subsequently inform the development of AI models that create new art, replicating artists' specific styles and squeezing the financial stability of those who rely on traditional forms of artistry. The ambiguity surrounding copyright laws in AI technology means that artists are left with limited recourse to protect their intellectual property.
The proposed Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Act is a crucial step towards rectifying this issue. AI developers would be required to submit notices to the Register of Copyrights, disclosing copyrighted works used in training data at least 30 days before releasing or updating AI models. This would provide artists with transparency and accountability, offering them a foundation to protect and assert their rights, through negotiating with the corporations or taking legal action.
Imagine a world where artists could confidently create new works, knowing that their creations are safeguarded and their contributions to AI recognized. This is a future we can achieve together, but only with the implementation of robust legal frameworks that prioritize and protect the rights of artists.
The time for change is now. Artists deserve to have their voices heard and their works respected in the ever-evolving landscape of AI technology. By supporting the Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Act, we can foster a more equitable environment where creativity and technology coexist harmoniously.
Join me in this push for legislative action—sign this petition to champion the rights of artists everywhere and bring about necessary change in the way AI technology interacts with copyrighted materials.
