The Issue

I’m a school bus driver, and I’m tired of acting like this kind of thing is normal. I was driving straight through an intersection with a green light, doing about 25 miles per hour, when a driver decided to turn left right in front of me. Two people were still in the crosswalk, so he stopped dead in the middle of the intersection and made me slam on my brakes. Then he had the nerve to roll his window down and yell at me, like I was the problem.

This is exactly what people do not understand about driving near a school bus. When someone cuts in front of us and forces us to brake hard, it is not just annoying. It puts kids at risk. It puts drivers at risk. It puts people in the crosswalk at risk. A school bus is not a regular car, and people who drive recklessly around buses should not be treated like this is some small mistake.

That is why I am calling on state lawmakers to pass stronger penalties for drivers who endanger school buses by cutting them off, blocking intersections, or forcing sudden stops. We need consequences that actually make people think before they pull a stunt like this in front of a bus full of children. If we say student safety matters, then our laws need to reflect that.

Please sign this petition if you agree that we need to get serious about protecting kids on school buses. People need to get their act together before somebody gets hurt. Do the right thing and help demand real consequences for dangerous driving around school buses.
