The Issue

Growing up, our pets were family members and I remember cherishing every moment spent with them. Even today, this love for animals reflects in my own home, as we care for our cat, Cheeto, and our mixed chihuahua, Luna, both of whom we rescued from terrible conditions. This personal bond with animals has deepened my distress at the current state of affairs in Haines City, where too many animals suffer needlessly.

Haines City has a growing reputation as a place of danger for animals. A simple drive through our streets citizens have to witness dozens of distressed animals and heartbreakingly frequent roadkill. We are witnessing an alarming rate of neglect and abuse towards house pets such as cats, dogs, and birds. It's a growing epidemic that cannot be ignored any longer.

Statistics show that stronger animal protection laws significantly reduce incidents of abuse and neglect. According to the Humane Society, one in five American households has witnessed animal cruelty in their neighbourhood. Yet, only a fraction of these incidents are reported due to the lack of stringent laws or fear of retaliation.

We urge the Haines City Commission to pass stronger animal welfare laws and enhance enforcement measures. Establishing a task force dedicated to animal safety could ensure quicker responses to cases of abuse and neglect. Increasing penalties for offenders would serve as a deterrent to those who would harm our innocent pets.

Let's ensure that our community becomes a haven for them rather than a place of threat. Join us in urging the Haines City Commission to act now, for the sake of all the vulnerable animals who rely on our kindness and protection. Please sign this petition to show your support for stronger laws and enforcement against animal abuse.
