It’s hard to believe that after all the lives lost to preventable violence, we are still having to beg our leaders to act. Here in Wisconsin, there is still no Extreme Risk Protection Order, no Red Flag Law, to save a life when someone shows clear warning signs of danger to themselves or others. That’s why Henry’s Law matters. It’s about accountability. It’s about prevention. It’s about ensuring that no one is above the law and that no parent ever has to live with the kind of loss that I do. These laws are not about politics. They are about prevention. They give families and law enforcement a legal way to temporarily remove firearms from someone in crisis, someone making threats, showing violent behavior, or struggling with suicidal thoughts. They are not punishment. They are protection. And they save lives. If Wisconsin had an ERPO in place, I believe my son Henry would still be here. His father was a former police officer who showed clear warning signs long before the unthinkable happened. There were so many red flags, but no legal tool strong enough to intervene before tragedy struck. Henry deserved better. Every child deserves better. I look around and I see too many families like mine, in Wisconsin and across the country, forced to live with the unbearable weight of what could have been prevented. And yet, it’s still so quiet. No real conversations. No urgency. Just silence. We need to start talking about this. We need to push for change in the states that continue to ignore the warning signs and the data. We need leaders who care more about saving lives than scoring political points. This is not about taking away anyone’s rights. It’s about giving families a chance to protect their loved ones before it’s too late.
Please share Henry’s story. Please add your name. Please help me fight for Henry’s Law, and for every child who didn’t get the chance to grow up.
