Governor Tony Evers has confirmed he will not be seeking another term. That means our window to pass a Red Flag Law in Wisconsin is closing fast. For over three years, I have been fighting for this law, a law that could have saved my 16-year-old son, Henry D. Teuteberg. Henry was love and light in its purest form. He was the teenager who would notice the lonely classmates and sit with them. The one who would buy lunch for someone who could not afford it. The one who lit up a room without even trying. But on April 16, 2021, his life was stolen in a murder-suicide that should have been prevented. The system failed him. They ignored the red flags. The man who took Henry’s life was still allowed to keep his guns. Without a Red Flag Law, my son never had a chance. Governor Evers has supported the idea of a Red Flag Law before, but support means nothing without action. His time in office is running out, and so is our time to make this happen. Every single day without this law is another day we gamble with lives. I will not stop saying Henry’s name. I will not stop fighting for the law that could have saved him.
If you have ever thought about signing, sharing, or speaking up, this is the moment. Let’s flood their offices with calls, emails, and signatures. Let’s make it impossible for them to ignore the lives at stake. We cannot wait for the next governor. We cannot wait for another legislative session. We cannot wait for another tragedy.
We cannot lose another Henry.
Sincerely, Henry’s mother Jennifer
