Now that the election is over, we urge Wisconsin lawmakers to take action on passing the Extreme Risk Protection Orders/Red Flag Law. This crucial legislation would empower law enforcement, family members, and medical professionals to petition courts to temporarily prohibit individuals at risk of harming themselves or others from purchasing and possessing firearms. The Department of Justice has already provided a framework for states to consider, highlighting the effectiveness of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), AKA Red Flag Laws, in saving lives. I’m tired of their inaction on this issue, as lives are being lost and families are being destroyed every day.
