Pass Legislation to stop AA Hate Crimes and Reinvestigate Cases Like Kendrick Johnson's
The Issue
As an African American woman, I am deeply troubled by the hate crimes perpetrated against my community. It makes me love my people even more, as no one deserves to endure trauma and subsequently be gaslighted about their experiences. The rise in hate crimes is appalling, and it is more important now than ever to pass legislation that stops such violence against African Americans.
Not only must there be preventative measures, but it's equally crucial to revisit unsolved cases, such as that of Kendrick Johnson. Kendrick was a seventeen-year-old African American student, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in 2013. His tragic death raised serious questions about the pervading societal bias, justice, and racial inequality, and his case is one of many that deserve thorough and fair re-investigations.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, hate groups in the United States have been on the rise for the fourth year in a row in 2020. This trend is an alarming testament to the intensifying racial hostility in the country. It is time for legislative action. We demand that our lawmakers pass legislation to curb hate crimes against African Americans and ensure justice is served in every case. Sign this petition to stand up against racial violence and affirm your commitment to justice and equality.
I've personally known people that have been killed by the police or targeted by hateful racist white supremacist...it's time we demand more protection or we boycott their corporations!
