Pass legislation that would save lives and prevent human trafficking
The Issue
My name is Brie, and I understand how you can end up in a very bad place. Despite a privileged upbringing in a tight-knit community, a family that loved me, and a good education, I ended up a drug addict on the streets. I’m a poster child for “if it could happen to me, it could happen to anybody”. Luckily, I’ve been sober for nine years and have used my experience to help get other vulnerable women off the streets. Many of these women are victims of human trafficking.
But people like me are not enough. It will take big reforms to protect women being forced into slavery and the sex trade. Please help us pass the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act of 2015.
I am now a student working in the social services field, and a group of us started this petition to push Congress to pass this act. The act would go further than any human trafficking legislation before it to strike at the root of what allows human trafficking to thrive, all while protecting those women who have already become trapped.
Victims of human trafficking are all around us. I know from experience that they can come from the poorest or wealthiest of neighborhoods. They could be someone you love, and they need our help.
Please join us in urging Congress to pass the Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act of 2015. It will help stop human trafficking and save lives.
