The Issue

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, RDNs and other health care providers in NJ received lower reimbursement rates from some insurers for telehealth services than for in-person services. In 2021, the NJ Legislature authorized the continuation of telehealth services and ensured that health care providers would receive equitable payment to provide telehealth services.

On December 31, 2023, this access to telehealth services, which New Jersey residents have become accustomed to, will end if no action is taken by the New Jersey Legislature this year.

Two bills have been introduced to the NJ Legislature that will ensure equitable payment/reimbursement to dietitians for telehealth. A5757 and S4127 (Revises reimbursement payments for providers using telemedicine and telehealth).

We know that the continuation of pay parity will:

  • Provide increased patient access to telehealth providers.
  • Allow healthcare providers to deliver telehealth services.
  • Provide equitable reimbursement rates and payments to telehealth providers.

Make your voice heard! Please sign this petition and NJAND will share it with the NJ Legislature to let our representatives know that supporting access to and equitable reimbursement for telehealth services is critical to the health of NJ residents!
