Dear supporters,

Thank you for the 7,600+ signatures on our petition demanding retroactive compensation and justice for survivors of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). We've been quiet lately, but real progress is happening—and a powerful new case is reminding us why we can't let up.

On January 20, 2026, former soldier Mayra Diaz filed a $10 million Federal Tort Claims Act complaint against the U.S. Army. At 19, while stationed at Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), she was brutally attacked in her barracks room on July 15, 2022, by Sgt. Greville Clarke—a serial predator convicted of raping and assaulting five female soldiers over 19 months (March 2021–October 2022). Clarke was sentenced to what amounted to life in prison (112.5 years) on 29 counts including rape, attempted murder, and more, but tragically died by suicide in 2025.

Diaz alleges the Army knew about Clarke's prior attacks and abuse but failed to warn barracks residents, add security measures, or take steps to protect her and others. This negligence, she says, made her assault preventable. Her attorney called the sexual violence crisis at Fort Hood an "epidemic," with preventable failures allowing predators to continue.

This lawsuit highlights exactly what our petition fights for: real accountability and financial consequences for systemic failures. Just like speeding tickets deter dangerous driving by hitting wallets, holding the military liable through lawsuits and retroactive benefits deters inaction on MST. Delays only prolong survivors' suffering and let the problem persist.

Our demand—retroactive VA disability benefits for MST-related conditions, starting from the date after discharge (as proposed in bills like the stalled H.R. 6023)—would provide overdue restitution and send a clear message: MST will no longer be swept under the rug.

This is our moment to surge forward. If you've already signed, please:

Together, we're turning headlines into lasting change. Survivors deserve justice—not just words.
