The Issue

Wisconsin voters deserve elections where their voices matter—not maps that predetermine outcomes. Right now, our state has a rare opportunity to move beyond the partisan “arms race” of redistricting and set a fair standard for the future.

Governor Tony Evers has called a special session of the Wisconsin Legislature to consider a constitutional amendment banning partisan gerrymandering. This proposal comes at a critical moment, as states across the country redraw maps in ways that advantage one party over another, leaving voters feeling unheard and disconnected from their government.

Wisconsin is one of the most closely divided states in the nation. Our elections are often decided by razor-thin margins, yet for years, legislative maps did not reflect that reality. Regardless of party, most people agree on one thing: politicians should not be able to choose their voters.

This is not a partisan issue—it is a fairness issue. When districts are drawn to guarantee outcomes, it undermines trust in elections, weakens accountability, and discourages participation. Fair maps, on the other hand, ensure that every vote carries weight and that elected officials must truly represent the people.

We, the undersigned, call on the Wisconsin State Legislature—including Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, Senate leadership, and all members of both chambers—to attend the special session, engage in good-faith negotiations, and pass a constitutional amendment that clearly and effectively bans partisan gerrymandering.

We also urge lawmakers from both parties to work together to define fair standards that put voters first, ensuring transparency and accountability in how districts are drawn.

This is a moment to rise above party politics and do what is right for Wisconsin. Our democracy works best when it is fair, competitive, and representative of all people—not engineered for political advantage.

Wisconsin voters want fair maps. It’s time for our leaders to act.
