The Issue

Children across the country are being forced to ingest large amounts of acidic substances, including apple cider vinegar, as a form of punishment. This alarming practice is not only dangerous but also medically harmful, especially when the vomit and are forced to drink more, causing long-term physical and emotional damage to our most vulnerable population—our children.

The act of forcing a child to consume an acidic substance as a disciplinary measure is deeply concerning and should draw immediate attention and action from legal authorities and child protection agencies. When children are subjected to ingesting these substances, they are exposed to a myriad of health risks, including chemical burns, digestive issues, and psychological trauma.

In many unfortunate cases, the lack of explicit legislation against this form of punishment leaves children unprotected, and perpetrators unpunished. Therefore, it becomes imperative to establish Brookshire’s Law, a proposed legislation to specifically address and ban the practice of forcing children to ingest acidic substances like apple cider vinegar.

Brookshire’s Law would not only involve banning the act itself but also implement mandatory reporting and investigation protocols whenever such incidents occur. By doing so, we can ensure that children are not subjected to these dangerous actions, and offenders are held accountable.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the ingestion of acidic substances can result in serious health consequences and interfering with a child's health and emotional welfare falls under child abuse. As many cases go unreported due to fear, scare tactics from the abuser or lack of awareness, instituting mandatory reporting and investigative procedures will create a safer environment for our children. Listen to our children. When a child at a young age can describe exactly what apple cider vinegar looks like smells like and feels like going down their throat and sometimes back up LISTEN TO THEM.

By signing this petition, you join in the fight for stronger protections and clearer laws to shield our children from such inhumane forms of punishment. Legislative action is needed now to end this insidious practice and protect the health and wellbeing of all children.

Please sign this petition to support Brookshire’s  Law and stand against the forced ingestion of acidic substances as punishment.
