This issue is close to my heart as many of my friends are homeschooled and are thus currently barred from taking part in various extracurricular activities, most notably sports. Extracurricular engagement is not only a fundamental part of the educational experience but also a critical avenue for socialization and developing lifelong skills. Bill S1010 presents a promising opportunity to rectify this situation by offering homeschooled students the chance to participate in these activities.

According to the National Education Association, extracurricular participation has been linked to higher academic performance, improved attendance, enhanced health, and numerous other beneficial aspects. Despite these well-documented benefits, homeschoolers are currently left out due to legislative restrictions. This is not only unjust but also destructive to the overall development of these students.

Passing Bill S1010 would bridge this gap and offer homeschoolers the same opportunities as their counterparts in traditional schools. It would serve to enrich their educational, social, and personal development, ensuring a more holistic and inclusive approach to learning.

In addition, there are many school teams that would benefit from the participation of home education students to help struggling sports programs and to broaden the opportunities due to low numbers. There is a bilateral gain and positive impact in approving this Bill for traditional school students and home educated students.
