Petition to Stop Toxic Housing in Pasadena California

The Issue

TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF CITIZENS, we present to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control this petition and request the Department act now, before site development, to require testing of the site groundwater, locating all “sources” of contamination, and performing a full site cleanup. The City of Pasadena have approved only partial, pre-construction cleanup of 11 "hotspots" and no ground water testing. No studies have evaluated the site's weapons development contaminants, such as HMX, NDMA, RDX, and TNT.

HOUSING LOCATION:  3200 E. Foothill Blvd. Pasadena, CA. 91107.

WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED? The Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) is the lead agency providing oversight for the environmental assessment and upcoming remediation. Based on historical site use by the Navy and numerous environmental assessments and investigations since 1994, it has been determined that the site is impacted with hazardous chemicals, and a cleanup will be required prior to the development of the mixed-use residential/business complex. The DTSC goal is to identify and remove the impacted soil and contaminated infrastructure for site development.

PUBLIC NOTICE HEARING: Thursday, March 28, 2019.  Pasadena City College Community Education Center. 3035 E. Foothill Blvd. Pasadena, California 91107. Presentation; 6:00-6:30pm Open house: 6:30pm   Jack Scott Multipurpose Room #126 1st floor
