Odalys LLC started this petition to Parole board member Sherman Lea and

We, The People, in full support of relief for Ronnie Phillips moves the honorable Virginia Parole Board and it's designated review personnel to grant Ronnie Phillips early release by means of parole in light of the following circumstances.

Ronnie Phillips’, inmate number 1049047, is a Virginia inmate who has been incarcerated in the Virginia department of corrections for over 25 consecutive years following his conviction for first degree homicide. Ronnie Phillips was 19 years old and like many others at that age, made some bad decisions. Ronnie Phillips has been going up for parole since 2006 yet has been repeatedly denied because of the serious nature of the offense and a lack of sufficient community support.

Although we have a zero tolerance for violence, we strongly believe in second chances for those deserving it. Not only in the state of Virginia, but on a national level, there are individuals receiving prison sentences of 15 years or less for cases of homicide. Where is the judicial equality? Why should Ronnie Phillips, after having been self-rehabilitated and reformed, be denied early release to right his wrongs and pay it forward to his community.

While being incarcerated Ronnie Phillips has received his GED, a trade in Custodial Maintenance, and has completed the following programs: Anger Management, Breaking Barriers, Problem Solving, Thinking for a Change, Cognitive Skills, and Substance Abuse. Ronnie Phillips has also completed Blood Borne Pathogens & Health and Safety training, as well as a Bible study course with Crossroads Ministry. He is currently enrolled in Stratford Career Institute's Electrician diploma program to get his Electrician diploma, and is enrolled in a prison program titled "Victim Impact".

Co-owner & CEO of Odalys LLC, Ms. Zuleika Flores, states: "Mr. Phillips has made substantial efforts to change and better himself. After reviewing the circumstances of his case and his record of rehabilitative deeds, it is evident that Ronnie Phillips, if granted parole, will be a positive and productive member of his community. I don't believe recidivism will be a issue here, therefore parole is deserved in his case."

Mr. Phillips quotes:
“ONCE UPON A TIME, I ADMIT, I BELONGED HERE. FOR WHAT I DID AND FOR WHO I WAS. ASK ANY MAN WHO IS HONEST WITH HIMSELF AND HAS MATURED, AND WHO TRULY SEES THE ERRORS OF HIS WAYS AND ACTIONS. THIS IS THE TRUTH HE SECRETLY ADMITTED TO HIMSELF AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS CONFINEMENT AND AS THE YEARS PASSED. AND THIS IS WHAT A REAL MAN CAN OPENLY ADMIT TO OTHERS TODAY. WHEN I LOOK BACK ON MY LIFE, I COMPARE IT TO A PERSON WHO WAS ONCE VERY SICK. THIS "SICKNESS" WAS ONLY PARTIALLY THE RESULT OF HOW I GREW UP, BUT MORE OF WHAT I CHOSE TO INTERNALIZE IN MY MIND AS MY "VALUES". IF WHAT YOU VALUE IS ALL NEGATIVE, SO WILL BE YOUR PURSUITS IN LIFE, AND SO WILL YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE. RIGHT UP UNTIL THE POINT WHERE YOUR OWN NEGATIVITY WILL AFFECT SOMEONE ELSE. THIS IS HOW THE SICKNESS OPERATES. AND IT CAME FROM MY OWN CHOICES AND DECISIONS, BECAUSE ULTIMATELY, I DID WHAT I DID OF MY OWN ACCORD. THIS SICKNESS CAN WARP YOUR MIND (THINKING), DULL YOUR HEART (FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS) AND CAUSES YOU TO ACT OTHER THAN YOURSELF. YOU WON'T KNOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE UNTIL YOU ARE "CURED". I SAY THIS BECAUSE BEING IN HERE THIS LONG GIVES YOU THE ABILITY TO CURE YOURSELF. BUT WHEN YOU ARE CURED YOU MUST NOT CONTINUE TO BE AROUND THOSE WHO ARE SICK. THOSE THAT IN HERE HAVE NOT UNDERGONE THE METHODS AND PROCESSES TO HEAL THEMSELVES OR OTHERS. IT IS NOW THAT I MUST BE REMOVED FROM THIS ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE I AM NOW CURED. I GOT THE HELP I NEEDED TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON. OUR RECORDS OF OURSELVES PROMOTE US TO THE WORLD, GOOD AND BAD, AND IT IS THROUGH THESE RECORDS THAT PEOPLE WHO LEARN ABOUT US DEVELOP A PERCEPTION OF WHO WE ARE. LET MY RECORD OF MY CHANGE IN HERE REFLECT THAT I'M NO LONGER THE PERSON I WAS THAT CAUSED ME TO BE IN HERE.“
Wherefore, in light of the circumstances and record of rehabilitated deeds of Mr. Phillips, we support relief in the form of parole for Ronnie Phillips.
