It is shocking that in this day and age,owning a pet still remains a privilege in UK.Our generation can sadly not afford to step on the property ladder but on top of paying outrageous rates for rental, tenants still cannot keep any kind of pet. Even if many properties are rented unfurnished, even if tenants are charged hefty deposit sums which would cover accidental damage,we still cannot have a parrot,a hamster,a goldfish,a rabbit or a cat.With many of us stuck at home during lockdown,this impacts on our mental health and the benefits of a pet for mental well-being are undeniable-yet we are being denied it.Children whose families rent are also being denied this simple right -to look after a small creature and enjoy its company. In the meantime,more and more animal charities struggle to find owners for the pets and more and more people need help coping with stress,especially those living alone,for whom a small pet would be a companion and a blessing.

Please help tenants have their voice heard and put an end to the ridiculous zero pet tolerance policy imposed through tenancy agreements .It is a blanket policy that does not respect our human rights and creeates a class divide.
