Bill C-260 amends the Canada Post Act to allow Canada Post to transport alcohol between provinces and deliver it directly to consumers.

This is a federal response to provincial monopolistic practices unfairly limiting the transmission of alcohol products between provinces. In the current system, some provinces allow alcohol products to be shipped out to consumers, but not to be shipped in, while others allow product to be carried in, but not shipped, while others allow free movement, while others allow none. All depending on how much control each province retains over the local sale of alcohol, and how much money the provinces have invested.

Thus, it is difficult, and often impossible for consumers to sample alcohol products from other provinces, and it is similarly difficult for producers to reach markets outside of their own province.

The enactment of bill c-260 would allow the Canada Post Corporation to cary alcohol consumer direct from suppliers across Canada regardless of provincial restrictions unless a province opts out. We the undersigned craft beer, wine and spirit enthusiasts and supportive producers are calling on the federal government to move on bill c-260, to pass it through the house so it can continue due process to become law.
