LEGALISE PIT BULLS IN THE UK

LEGALISE PIT BULLS IN THE UK
The Issue
Legalise pit bulls in the UK and take them off the Dangerous Dogs Act. In my experience of working with these dogs, the breed makes no difference whether a dog is aggressive or not, it is down to their environment. Pit bulls deserve the same chance at life as any other breed of dog. The media has portrayed them as ‘dangerous’ and ‘aggressive’ while normally missing out crucial details like they have been abused or had limited human contact. I believe they should be legalised in the UK so rescues and shelters can re home then with a family who is going to love and take care of them regardless of their breed. Any dog can be dangerous without the correct environment, so why should pit bulls be any different? I have met some beautiful pit bulls while working in an animal shelter and they have sadly had to be put to sleep due to their breed. That’s right, we don’t assess their behaviour or train them they just get put straight to sleep because they may have slightly smaller ears than a Staffordshire bull terrier which are yes, legal. If you look up the history of Pit bulls, it will show they were used as nanny’s and family dogs as they are loyal, obedient and affectionate, it is only due to bad press they have a bad reputation which is why I believe they should be given the same chance of a good life like any of breed of dog.
