Introduce a licence law for the purchase of fireworks & increase legal age to buy to 21.
Introduce a licence law for the purchase of fireworks & increase legal age to buy to 21.
The Issue
Today is 5th October 2020 and people on a nearby estate in Hull are setting off fireworks. This happens regularly. There is no significance to these date. Fireworks are glorious and are great for special occasions. Unfortunately these fireworks fall into the wrong hands. This is a problem in Hull and across the country. This is grossly unfair to working people trying to relax or sleep, causing stress to animals and people living with dementia. I wish to petition parliament with the request that should a person wish to buy fireworks they must pay to obtain a licence beforehand and produce this to the relevant retailer before purchase. I also propose that the legal age to purchase fireworks is increased from the current age of 18 to at least 21 years old. Fireworks are being sold to irresponsible people and this is effecting the lives of others. I also believe that, with the exception of bonfire night (not bonfire week) and New Year’s Eve that the use of fireworks should be made time restrictive as after 10pm on a Thursday night in mid January (or any other day for that matter) is ignorance personified. This problem is getting worse year on year, day on day and more sensible laws should be introduced to better police the problem at hand. I urge you to sign this petition and urge parliament to see sense over the matter as before long someone will be seriously hurt over people’s inappropriate use of fireworks.
