Two weeks ago, when Sue Roberts and I first met to start our #BarcodeBoycott at Birkenhead parkrun, we could not imagine we’d be saying a massive thank you to 500 signatories to our petition this morning. We hadn’t even thought of it for one thing!

Now we need to keep it going and keep spreading the word, so please keep sharing the petition and this message so more and more people know what is going on and how they can help.

We don’t want parkruns to fold on Merseyside or anywhere else, but if the @parkrun Board doesn’t reverse this decision, and if @parkrunUK don’t find better ways to support and nurture their army of volunteer event organizers, this will happen, and happen soon.

So, from this Saturday onwards we’re asking parkrunners to help us #ProtestNicely and send out two clear messages that can’t be missed. To @parkrun and @parkrunUK we say #NoMoreDinsmore and to our lovely local parkrun volunteers you’ll never (tail)walk alone. #YNWA. Here’s how…

Step 1: Wear your 97 t-shirt to your local parkrun this Saturday. If you haven’t got one, wear yellow. If you’re at @Bheadparkrun we’ve got a few spares left.

Step 2: Do your parkrun as you usually would, or if you’ve never been before why not give it a go? It’s a run not a race, no one finishes last because there will be a friendly volunteer tailwalker behind you no matter how slow you go.

Step 3: Smile, be nice, tell others what you are doing and why, at the start and on the way round. Remember most people still don’t know what’s happened, so don’t have a go at anyone for running or volunteering.

Step 4: IF you enter the finish funnel DO take the finish position token you are given, then politely return it to the barcode scanner, just DON’T present your personal barcode. If you’d prefer not to register a finish step aside before the finish and line the way to welcome others, up to and including the tailwalker.
