To get an official honour for former Calderdale Cllr M Najib for services to the community

The Issue

This petition is for the people of Halifax and beyond to help gain official government recognition for history making former Calderdale Councillor Mohammed Najib of Halifax.

He was Calderdale’s first Asian/Muslim Councillor, was also the first Asian/Muslim to hold any mayoral role within Calderdale.

He served as a Calderdale Councillor for over 20 years, during his time when an all out Council Election was held, he received more votes than any other Councillor in Calderdale.

He served as Leader of the Labour Group in Calderdale, held various positions and posts in the party and with other organisations such as the West Yorkshire Police Authority and Leeds Bradford Airport.

Yet here we are all these years later and no official recognition for all his hard work.

He was a champion for the St. John’s/Park Ward community in Halifax at a time when the Asian community was still trying to establish itself and find its identity.

He was a trailblazer for a generation of Asians who needed a voice at levels their voice had never been heard before.

Najib sacrifced his life for the people and we ask the people to help us get him official government recognition in the form of an official honour.
