The option for students in the SPS to continue on with the Distance Learning Academy Model

The Issue

We are concerned parents who would like to have the option for our children to attend the Stamford public schools distance learning academy for the 2021-2022 academic year, or at least until they have been fully vaccinated and protected from COVID-19 and it associated deadly variant.  Children under the age of 12 are still not eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, and once it is available to that age group, it will still take some time for all of the required doses to be administered, and for their immunity to build up. Some children reside in multigenerational households, or rely on grandparents for child care. If children were to attend in person schooling, and needed to quarantine, it would pose a potential hardship to many. Not to mention the devastating affects  that COVID-19 and it’s deadly variant are having on our younger population at the moment. Some of our children have underlying medical conditions. In light of current events, we feel that our children and families will be put into a precarious and dangerous position if they were to return to in person schooling before a vaccine is approved for them.  If you agree that a remote school option should be made available for our precious children, kindly sign and share the petition. Let’s be proactive for change,  and not wait until there are casualties of the deadly delta variant! State and local representative for our educational system, as well as the media, have been alerted to our concerns.
