Parents as paid caregiver ALTCS

The Issue

As a mother of a child with a disability I am asking that we get this state wide to world wide recognition. During the pandemic ALTCS/AHCCCS allowed parents to be the caregiver provider for services our kids receive, such as habilitation services. I believe parents should be allowed to permanently be a provider as we are already doing the teaching these services provide. As a mother of a child with special needs being able to be the provider during this time allowed me to help provide for her and teach her the life skills I am already teaching her on a daily basis. Most parents of a child with special needs do not work or choose not to as we are not comfortable putting our child in someone else’s hands. This allows those parents to be able to keep their child’s safety, habilitation needs and financial needs as number one. Which in return provides a better home environment for the child and the parents involved. Habilitation services can/do help the child with personal hygiene and allows ultimately a stranger into the childs personal space, a disruption to their everyday person during their everyday routine. Results as being my child’s care provider for habilitation services have been a positive one. She is more willing to do the task at hand and has less emotional outburst as she is familiar with me. Please sign this petition to keep parents as providers for these services.
