An Alienated Child Speaks: The Signs Adults Failed to See.

The words below come from an adult survivor of parental alienation who experienced this harm during childhood and now speaks publicly as an advocate and educator. Her perspective shows why adults, family members, educators, mental-health professionals, legal professionals, and other authorities must look beyond surface appearances and recognize the signs of alienation. A child’s words or rejection may reflect pressures and conditioning that are not immediately visible; listening carefully and examining the broader circumstances can make the difference between protecting a child and allowing profound harm to continue.

What happens when you figure out that one of your parents manipulated you to reject your other parent… for years, or even decades??

You lose more than time. You lose your identity, self-esteem, ability to know what’s REAL about your parents and yourself.

You lose your confidence. Your ability to trust others. Your ability to form healthy attachments. Your spark. Your joy.

Often, you even lose your physical health.

You lose months, years with your loving parent, of course, but you also miss out on years that you could’ve been healthy, happy, and free. Which are often the most formative years of one’s life.

It’s time you can’t get back and scars you’ll bear for the rest of your life.

That’s why I chose to educate the public about this. You lose much more than time

7 things an alienated child may believe, that aren't actually true

1.  My parent doesn't love me.
2. My thoughts and beliefs are all my own.
3. My "good parent is just trying to "protect" me.
4. I'm not allowed to be close with my "bad" parent, it feels like betraying my "good" parent.
5. My "good" parent is the only person who truly loves me.
6. If everyone around me agrees, it must be true.
7. The fact that I "hate" them proves they hurt me.

A loving parent does not put their child through this. It is child abuse.
