I am petitioning for a 2D IMAX release as I believe converting 15/70mm footage into 3D is a waste of a perfectly vivid format.
I've come to understand the plan is to shoot this film in 2D, with some scenes being shot on IMAX® cameras (much like The Dark Knight Rises), only to then post convert it into 3D (much like the Clash of the Titans remake) to go for an IMAX 3D® release.
I am petitioning for the choice to watch the film the way it was originally shot. IMAX 2D worked very well for The Dark Knight, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and The Dark Knight Rises. If most of the United States have lost interest in 3D, with the United Kingdom following suit, then it would be nice for our audiences, at the very least, to get an IMAX 2D version.
... And I very much mean for 15/70mm cinemas, not the newly built digital cinemas.
If you too are interested in seeing Star Trek Into Darkness in IMAX 2D, simply sign this petition.
