Punish Jayden Seyfarth for privacy harassment and make sure he can't do this anymore
The Issue
Ashton Irwin gets FOUR days with his family back home in Australia before he will be thrown into the whirlwind of preparation for his world tour, Sounds Live Feels Live, with his fellow members of the band 5 Seconds of Summer in 2016. Four days. That's so little time, just four days of privacy with his family, is that really too much to ask for? Apparently it was for Jayden Seyfarth.
The 18 year old "half-fan, half paparazzi" stalked Irwin while the latter was spending time with his mother, Anne-Marie, his younger brother, Harry and alleged-girlfriend, Bryana Holly. Videos across Twitter clearly show Irwin begging Seyfarth to leave the former and his family alone. "This is my family, I get four days a year at home." the emotion is clear in the 21 year old's voice. "Don't come near my family, ok? Do you understand? Stay away from me in my family." "Its my job Ashton, Its my job and you gotta respect that." Seyfarth replies. If Irwin should respect Seyfarth's job, then the least Seyfarth could do in reply would be to give Irwin the respect of leaving him alone for the holidays.
Irwin is accused of smacking the phone of a fan (@DCfirecharm) out of her hand and into the street. Seyfarth posted a video, apparently recording the incident *after it happened, where the girl can be heard making a small exclamation of despair, and Irwin is seen with an extremely agitated expression on his face. Following the video, Seyfarth also posted a photo, suspiciously taken from a different angle in much sharper clarity showing Irwin and the girl right after the band member allegedly "hit her".
Following the "phone smacking" incident, Seyfarth leaked Irwin's mother's address online, and even tweeted "Who wants @Ashton5SOS phone number??"and apparently leaking the number to a number of individuals who actually asked him for it. Irwin's mother, Anne-Marie Irwin later released a statement about the incident, about how both the girl, Seyfarth, and another individual had camped out by the Irwin household during the band member's visit home. Anne-Marie was distraught when her son told her "mum it’s going to get to a point where you might have to move or I just can’t come home". A point where celebrities can't come home as fans and paparazzi stalk them and threaten the safety and privacy of their families? Is that what paparazzi and fans want?
Seyfarth has then since released several nasty online comments related to the incident, linking an article about the matter and proceeding to state that it was "most bullshit article ever and (of course) the stupid 5sos fans will believe what ever bullshit that him and his mother say!". Seyfarth's statement was released in response to the overwhelming outpour of outrage from fans, who were upset that Seyfarth had harassed a young man (Irwin) who had touched so many of them with his words and his music.
Irwin released a public statement on Google+ begging anyone who had his address to delete it, reminding fans that he loves them, but needs time alone with his family, a request that is completely understandable. Ashton Irwin gets so little time home in Australia, all he wanted was four days of privacy, and Seyfarth and his two companions harassed the former and his family, threatening their safety and violating their basic privacy rights.
Jayden Seyfarth should not walk away from this, he put the Irwin family in danger by leaking their home address and Ashton Irwin's phone number, both of which are considered illegal violations of privacy. Ashton makes his living inspiring individuals through his music (along with his other bandmates; Calum, Luke and Michael) and his words, reminding fans that we're all in it together, Jayden Seyfarth makes a living selling people's lives for money. And this time he has put a family in danger because of that, Seyfarth should no longer be allowed to harass celebrities like Irwin, he should be fined and removed from social media for the matter of violating the Irwins' privacy.
I hope that one day, all paparazzi will respect the privacy celebrities deserve during the holiday season, and let those celebrators, not just Ashton, spend the holidays in peace with their families. Punishing Seyfarth is just the first step, celebrities are human beings too, and we should acknowledge their right to spend a few brief days of peace with their families over the holiday season.
Let's do this 5SOSFam, I know I'm not the only one outraged by this. Let's do this for Ashton, who has helped so many of us, who sticks up for us, its our time to show him that we've got his back too.
