Repeal the 25MPH speed limit in St. Florian

Repeal the 25MPH speed limit in St. Florian

The Issue

The town of St. Florian has unnecessarily reduced the speed limit of its main road to 25MPH.

Although citizens voiced their disapproval at a called meeting, they don't feel as if their opinions are being heard.

The reason given is for safety, that residents are not adhering to the 35MPH limit that was previously in place. This is not the fault of the law abiding citizens and businesses that are a part of the St. Florian community. If a person is going to speed at 35MPH, they're going to speed at 25 MPH.

According to their own statistics, an average of 6080 cars a day pass through there, and there is a record of 14 reported accidents in 1-1/2 years. This translates to roughly 3.3 million cars over that time frame, with a .0008% accident rate per car. (Assuming that each wreck involved 2 vehicles.) Statistically, this means that you could travel through St. Florian 1000 times, and still have less than a 1% chance of being involved in a wreck.

It is much easier to write tickets for an unreasonably low speed limit than a reasonable one.

Businesses are going to feel the impact of the lack of traffic, as multiple people have already decided to use other routes that do not involve this speed trap.

Please help us get word to the elected officials of St. Florian that they work for us, not the other way around, and this petition represents the opinions of the voters that decide that arrangement.
