Stop the Development of the McCarthy Road Homeless Navigation Center

The Issue

The City of Palm Springs has identified 3589 MCCARTHY ROAD as a location to build
a Homeless Navigation Center that would provide transitional housing and wraparound services for the Homeless population in Palm Springs. This facility would be home to potentially 200+ unhoused individuals.

The site is immediately adjacent to both single-family and multifamily residential uses and has potential impacts on residents and businesses nearby.

Palm Springs has needed an Homeless Center for years, the homeless situation has only become much worse. North Palm Springs has our own problems with substance abuse, mental health and violence.Locating a Homeless Navigation Center within our neighborhood would negatively impact our safety and economic development in the area.

We stand for the success of homeless reintegration. Shelter and food is not enough!! Most homeless do not have a car. We must place these centers in  close proximity to a jobs, hotels, restaurants, businesses preferably walking distance. The least amount of hurdles we can provide will keep a  their positive momentum to cement their success back into society.
This is the Palm Springs councils general practice that continues to predominantly black  communities like this neighborhood that has been redlined since the 1934.

Don’t be fooled, your gated community is at risk. Currently, homeless individuals are jumping the walls of  “Mountain Gate, Racquet Club West, Miralon, Palm Springs Vilas and Park San Rafael.” Homeless individuals are using private pools/jacuzzi to bathe. We have found  syringes in our bushes and grass in areas that kids play. A large population of the homeless individuals suffer from extreme drug addiction and/or mental health issues. When confronted they become aggressive and violent. Mainly high-risk elderly live alone in these communities and are targets  by the homeless population.

Please sign to keep our communities safe and to choose a better location for the Homeless Navigation center.
