Postpone, don’t cancel, graduation ceremonies for the PSUSD Class of 2020
The Issue
Please postpone and reschedule graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020. A virtual graduation is not really a graduation. There are other alternatives that can be made available with community input. Cancelling graduation this far from a potential rescheduled date is not fair to these proud Seniors who have worked so hard for the past 13 years.
Give them the respect by making alternative plans such as changing venue to a district owned facility such as the football field where proper distancing can easily be achieved. Providing live streamed coverage for family and friends, and if possible (by municipal rules) limiting the number of in-person guest that each graduate my have to 2 people that have been properly screened and follow current guidelines for health.
While it is true the school district is tasked with keeping our students, parents, and staff safe, it is also true that said district works FOR those same people. This is a monumental decision in the lives of these young adults who have worked so hard & dreamed of this moment for many years. Before making such a unilateral decision affecting so many, why weren’t any outside groups approached to contribute ideas or alternatives to this drastic approach?
