Stop burning forests and give back the clear blue sky to us!

The Issue

Dear all the residents and travelers in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Southern Thailand who are currently

  • inhaling toxic
  • suffering from haze-induced illness
  • planning to cancel your outdoor activities
  • consider of buying a mask for your pet
  • fleeing to a place or country with less haze

Without having me to elaborate further, I think we all know how haze has been disrupting our daily lives lately by experiencing it ourselves. The current situation need immediate ACTION and ATTENTION!! We want the clear blue sky that we (all types of living organisms in this planet) DESERVED it, which neither the Indonesia government or the palm oil companies that burn down forests for plantation have the right to take away from us.

And there is something you can do besides of keep reminding your loved ones to drink more water and stay indoor - SUPPORT THIS PETITION and urge the relevant parties to come up with both short-term and long-term solutions to STOP THE HAZE. There must have some ways to balance the benefits and downsides of producing palm oil.

Following are some of the solutions suggested by the Union of Concerned Scientists:

  1. Plantation developers improve yields and plant on degraded land.
  2. Governments formulate their biofuels policies to avoid unintended consequences to ensure that critical climate goals are met.
  3. Companies in palm oil-related businesses act to ensure that none of their raw materials contribute to tropical deforestation or peatland depletion.
  4. Consumers exert their influence.

Some background info of Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG)

The Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG) aims to support the RSPO through building on RSPO standards and commitments and by both demonstrating innovation to implement RSPO existing standards as well as with additional critical issues. POIG focuses on three thematic areas of environmental responsibility, partnerships with communities, and corporate and product integrity. POIG focuses on creating innovations in the palm oil industry and the promotion of these innovations. POIG will demonstrate that by setting and implementing ambitious standards, the industry can in particular break the link between palm oil and deforestation, and human, land and labour rights violations.
