Implement Meatless Mondays for Palm Beach County Schools

Implement Meatless Mondays for Palm Beach County Schools
The Issue
The daily consumption of meat is not environmentally sustainable. Americans consume more than 180 pounds of meat per person per year. Cattle, only one part of the meat sector, produce 154-265 pounds of methane per year, a greenhouse gas that is 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Factory farming of animals is the number one cause of climate change (generating ⅕ of man-made greenhouse gas emissions), and eating meat so frequently contributes to health problems (diets high in red meat are linked to cancer, heart disease, and stroke) and supports unnecessary cruelty to animals.
Our school district can do its part to combat these issues by serving eco-friendly, healthy, and delicious meat-free meals for just one day each week. If we do not start decreasing our greenhouse gas emissions, we will inhabit a world where children will learn more about extinction than conservation.
