Honourable Prime Minister,

We, the citizens, students, teaching faculty and research scholars of India, humbly request that Dr. Lalji Singh, known as the “Father of Indian DNA Fingerprinting,” be awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his outstanding contributions to forensic science.

Dr. Singh, who hails from a small village in Jaunpur, UP, has made significant strides in the field as a former Vice Chancellor of BHU and a distinguished alumnus. He revolutionised forensic science by introducing DNA fingerprinting in India, which played a crucial role in solving complex cases, including the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. His pioneering work has helped deliver justice to the innocent while holding the guilty accountable, making India the third country globally to adopt this technique.

Furthermore, Dr. Singh's genetic research on tribal communities, such as the Andamanese and Nicobarese, has shed light on the history of human migration and holds considerable significance for tribal health research. The establishment of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) and the Genome Foundation Kalwari (now Dr Lalji Singh Research Centre) is a testament to his visionary leadership.

Dr Singh's scientific achievements inspire the BHU community and India as a whole. His contributions have elevated India's status on the global stage. We believe that conferring the Padma Vibhushan on Dr Lalji Singh will honour his remarkable legacy and inspire future generations of scientists.

We kindly urge you to consider our request to bestow this prestigious award upon Dr. Lalji Singh.

माननीय प्रधानमंत्री जी,  

काशी हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय (BHU) के अध्यापकगण और शोध छात्र विनम्रतापूर्वक अनुरोध करते हैं कि "भारतीय डीएनए फिंगरप्रिंटिंग के जनक" डॉ. लालजी सिंह को उनके अभूतपूर्व योगदान के लिए पद्मविभूषण से सम्मानित किया जाए।  

जौनपुर के एक छोटे गाँव से निकलकर, BHU के पूर्व कुलपति और विशिष्ट पूर्व छात्र डॉ. सिंह ने डीएनए फिंगरप्रिंटिंग को भारत में स्थापित कर फोरेंसिक विज्ञान को क्रांतिकारी दिशा दी। उनके कार्य ने राजीव गांधी हत्याकांड जैसे जटिल मामलों को सुलझाया, निर्दोषों को न्याय दिलाया और अपराधियों को दंडित किया, जिससे भारत विश्व में इस तकनीक को अपनाने वाला तीसरा देश बना। उनके जनजातीय समुदायों (जैसे अंडमानी, निकोबारी) पर आनुवंशिक शोध ने मानव प्रवास के इतिहास को उजागर किया, जो जनजातीय स्वास्थ्य अनुसंधान के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है। सेंटर फॉर डीएनए फिंगरप्रिंटिंग एंड डायग्नोस्टिक्स (CDFD) और जीनोम फाउंडेशन की स्थापना उनके दूरदर्शी नेतृत्व का प्रतीक है।  

डॉ. सिंह की वैज्ञानिक उपलब्धियाँ BHU समुदाय और भारत के लिए प्रेरणा स्रोत हैं। उनके कार्य ने वैश्विक मंच पर भारत का गौरव बढ़ाया। पद्मविभूषण से उनकी विरासत को सम्मान मिलेगा और युवा वैज्ञानिकों को प्रेरणा प्राप्त होगी। कृपया इस अनुरोध पर विचार कर डॉ. लालजी सिंह को यह सम्मान प्रदान करें।
