We have support from the SAG-AFTRA Broadcast Steering Committee!
The SAG-AFTRA Broadcast Steering Committee supports the KPFK bargaining team's efforts to secure a fair contract and we stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers at KPFK.
Dear Ms. Brazon:
We the undersigned, members of the SAG-AFTRA Broadcast Steering Committee, write as a follow up to our December 5, 2020 letter regarding the KPFK/Pacifica contract negotiations.
During our March 6, 2021 meeting, we received an update on the ongoing KPFK negotiations and mediation sessions. We learned that most of the bargaining issues have been resolved, except for Pacifica’s proposal to significantly cut severance as well as a proposal to cut enhanced severance for on-air employees, the employees responsible for on-air fund drive programming. Your proposal to reduce severance has the greatest impact on employees with longevity at KPFK, the employees who have been dedicated to the station during challenging times.
Our Committee requests that you look for alternative cost saving measures within the organization and not reduce any additional SAG-AFTRA contract benefits. A station that prides itself on social and economic justice should be focused on cost saving solutions that do not reduce benefits to the team of workers responsible for keeping listeners engaged.
The SAG-AFTRA Broadcast Steering Committee supports the KPFK bargaining team's efforts to secure a fair contract and we stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers at KPFK.
