To our concerned Pacifica Community,

I received an update from Council member Mike O’Neill today, and here’s what we can expect for Monday’s 5/9/22 council meeting:

1)    Bruce Wright, Boys & Girls Club Vice Chair will read a prepared, 3 minute statement at the beginning of the Oral Communications portion of the mtg.

2)   The mayor is prepared to voice her support for our clubs to remain open, however, this will not be an official city statement.  At this writing, we have been denied any preview of what Mayor Bier will say.

3)   We’ve been informed that there will be NO reciprocal communication in this meeting, and that the city council, nor Bruce Wright, will be able to answer or speak to any questions that we have.  (Hence, the reason we are requesting a study session).

4)   Despite city council’s guidelines that any member of council can agendize an item, (Policy 1, page 6 of city of Pacifica’s administrative policies) we will NOT be put on the formal agenda for this mtg on 5/9.

5)   We will use the opportunity at the city council mtg to continue to speak out and advocate for city council’s support in preserving our Pacifica clubs.

6)   We will be reaching out to our school district board, to engage them in our battle, to keep our clubs open, as there remains no alternative for our children, and this will have a devastating impact on the children who attend our Pacifica schools.

Let’s keep the pressure on.  With Bruce Wright coming to speak, and the mayor voicing support, we are making a difference.

We will continue to hold B & G club authorities up to the light, to show how painfully unethical and demoralizing they are being to our children, parents and Pacifica community.

In Solidarity,

Erin Pickett
