Good evening city council members and Bruce Wright, Vice Chair, B & G Club,
In preparation for this Monday night’s city council meeting (tomorrow) on 5/9, we wanted to convey some questions we have, and topics of concern, that we would hope Bruce Wright would be able to answer in his statement on Monday.
We are aware no reciprocal communication will happen, however, in the interest of Bruce making the most of the community’s time, we felt it would be helpful for him to know our questions.
1) Is the merger on? Do you have authority to speak tonight on behalf of the Peninsula Board?
2) If the merger is off, do you have authority from the San Mateo board?
3) What are the plans to keep Pacifica clubhouses open, both short term and LONG term.
4) Will our B & G club programs be maintained with no interruption in service.
5) What is the state of Pacifica programs finances? Please explain revenue vs. burn rate.
6) Mayor Mary Bier, will you please send us a copy of what you will read tomorrow night? We acknowledge that this is not an official city statement, but would like to be prepared to understand your position on this issue.
For our part, we will continue to ask for the following:
1) To be put formally on the AGENDA for the next city council mtg.
2) To have the city council request and schedule a STUDY SESSION with the Boys and Girls club decision makers, to be able to have a reciprocal conversation, and review B & G clubs financials and long term plans.
3) To discuss arranging PARENTAL OVERSIGHT of the B & G club transactions, as they pertain to keeping our Pacifica clubs open for the long term.
Respectfully, we have been asking for these terms for over one month now, and the community is growing increasingly agitated and upset over the lack of communication on all parties involved.
Bruce, we are very appreciative and hopeful, that you will attend the city council mtg on 5/9, so that we may finally hear some answers to these questions.
We are advocating and trying to protect 400 children and families from the devastating closure of these clubs. Please help us find a resolution so that our children remain safe.
Please let us know that our Pacifica families will continue to be able to utilize a crucial, and irreplaceable, lifeline for our community.
