Donating food to individuals and families in your community is incredibly important, however, it is NOT a solution. Hunger is a symptom of the larger difficulties of poverty and inequality. To truly “end hunger,” we need to reduce the need for emergency assistance that food banks and pantries provide. The city of New York, its organizations, schools, offices, and supermarkets need to have an effective method of not wasting food. A long term thought out plan needs to be put in place. 1 out of 7 Americans is food insecure, food waste should not be an issue!
