Protect animals from abuse with Libre's Law

Is doing this to a puppy worse than getting a parking ticket or running a stop sign? Not according to Pennsylvania law. Abuse of an animal in the Commonwealth is a summary offense, a category reserved for the most minor of crimes. Sign the summons, write a check and be on your way. Pennsylvania has some of the weakest animal cruelty penalties in the nation, but that's about to change. Senator Richard Alloway (R), a former prosecutor, is sponsoring Libre's Law, which will better define animal neglect and create stiffer penalties than the usual wrist-slap abusers receive now. Changes have been needed for a long time, but it will take all of us speaking up to make it happen.
Libre, this Boston Terrier puppy pictured above, was found suffering from mange, sepsis, and was badly emaciated. Saved from certain death by months of extensive medical care , he will recover. His abuser , however, will go unpunished. We need to speak out against this kind of cruelty. Whether it be a dog , cat , horse or any other animal , inhumane treatment must not be tolerated in civilized society. Libre's Law will provide law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to protect those who cannot protect themselves .
Animal protection legislation is notoriously slow to become law in our state. We need to change that . Now. If we fail to ask our lawmakers to support pro-animal legislation, they assume we don't care, and hear only the side of powerful anti-animal opponents. Please, add your name to the list of all of us who wish to be the voice for those who cannot speak. Sign this petition today, and let's tell our lawmakers to PASS LIBRE'S LAW and strengthen Pennsylvania's animal cruelty law. We will continue to gather signatures to be hand delivered to our legislators at a rally planned for Sept. 28th on the steps of the Capitol.
